With video proving itself to be one of the most effective marketing tactics in 2018, more and more businesses are starting to create video content. In fact, according to HubSpot, 81% of businesses say they use video as a marketing tool now, up from 63% in 2017. Furthermore, 65% of those who don’t currently use video say they plan to start in 2018, which means just about every business will be thinking about how to use video in their marketing plans by the end of this year.
If you’re one of the businesses that’s just get started, getting over that initial hurdle – making your first video – is often the most daunting part. There’s a lot that goes into making a video apart from just filming, and there are many questions you’ll need to answer before you even think about grabbing a camera.

When is it good to do your videos in-house vs. when should you seek the help of an agency or third-party?
Alex A: So, there are two major factors you want to consider here: first would be time, the second would be budget. It really comes down to how many videos you want to be pumping out every week, and also what do you have the budget for. Say you want to publish one video a month, and you want it to be a higher production level, then you should probably outsource that. Then you don’t have to commit the time or resources to producing that, you can just let someone else worry about it.
However, if you want to be producing more than one video per week, that would get very expensive outsourcing that. That’s when I would suggest you bring it in-house, and your cost then would be the cost of hire and equipment.
I think that makes sense, but what happens if you fall between both of those categories?
Alex A: The company that would fall between those categories is the company that wants do some very simple social or email videos in-house; maybe even using an iPhone or other technology like that. However, their video like their “About Us” video on their webpage, that will live on the website, they probably want a higher end production. Then I would consider outsourcing for that sort of video. That’s going to be higher quality, going to have a longer life, and maybe be on different platforms.
